  • Q: Is there a charge to change out jewelry?

A: Yes due to the high demand for this service there is a $10 fee to change out jewelry you bring in yourself. If you purchase the jewelry at Sin in Skin there is no service fee.

  • Q: Will you pierce my child’s ears?

A: We will NOT pierce infants, under any circumstances. If the child is old enough to understand and give consent to the procedure, we will pierce them. We will not hold your child down or trick them into the piercing. They must be a willing participant, as we firmly believe in consent.

  • Q: How old do I have to be to get my ____ pierced?

A: This is at the piercer and parents’ discretion. Certain piercings in certain age groups may be denied solely based on changing anatomy with the child, such as navel piercings due to the body still being in a growth stage. Other piercings, such as nostril, ear cartilage, etc. would be an option for younger age groups given parental consent. We will not pierce minor nipples, genitals, or provide implants even with parental consent, under any circumstances.

  • Q: What size jewelry is my piercing?

A: This will vary depending on the type of piercing you get. Please see below for our common starting sizes for jewelry.

    Earlobes – 18g-20g

    Nostril – 18g

Septum – 16g (unless you requested larger size, then 14g)

    Ear Cartilage – 16g

    Navel – 14g

Lip – 16g (unless you requested a larger size, then 14g)

    Tongue – 14g

    Eyebrow / Bridge – 16g

    Nipples – 14g

    Genitals – 16g-14g

  • Q: What should I do to prep before my piercing appointment?

A: Ensure you are well fed and hydrated! Piercings take a lot out of you, so be prepared to rest up after your piercing!

  • Q: What can I expect throughout the healing process of my new piercing?

A: Within the first few days of your fresh piercing, you should expect light scabbing, throbbing pains, swelling, and discomfort. After this we will enter into a discharge and “crusty” period. It’s important to avoid pulling scabs or crusties off of the piercing, unless they are coming off gently with a wet q-tip (you want to avoid as much trauma as possible). Any white or light yellow discharge is completely normal! This is actually a great sign of healing. However, if you’re noticing dark yellow or green discharge, you should reach out to your piercer immediately. DO NOT REMOVE YOUR JEWELRY if you fear you may have an infection. Our piercers are an available resource to help you through your healing process, definitely take advantage of that!

  • Q: How do I properly care for my new piercing?

    A: For flesh piercings:

    - Clean with antibacterial non-scented soap 3-4 times daily. Rinse with water or saline solution, allow to air dry.

    - DO NOT USE ALCOHOL OR PEROXICDE TO CLEAN YOUR PIERCING

    - Avoid playing with your fresh piercing. You do not need to twist or spin your jewelry throughout the healing process. Of course, it will move slightly when you clean it, but you mustn’t actively play with the jewelry. This will cause microtears in your wound and will increase healing time and discomfort.

    A: For oral piercings:

    - If flesh and oral (such as lip), follow the above instructions for the part of the piercing that is sitting in flesh.

    - Rinse with antiseptic mouthwash EVERYTIME you drink, eat, or smoke.

    - Avoid dairy and yeast products for at least two weeks after your fresh piercing. This will ensure the piercing site doesn’t become infected or get unnecessarily swollen throughout the healing process.

    - Avoid any oral contact with others for at least two weeks.

  • Q: I lost my ball, what do I do?

A: These things happen! If you can’t locate the ball, please contact our piercers via our Facebook page, or simply come in during our business hours to get a replacement.

  • Q: My piercing fell out, what do I do?

A: If you’re unable to locate your jewelry or aren’t able to put it back in without assistance, reach out to our piercers via the Facebook page or if we are open, come into the shop immediately and the piercers will assist in putting your jewelry back in.

  • Q: My Dermal fell out what do I do?

A: If your gem was the only thing that fell out, no sweat! We can help replace that. If the entire dermal came out, including the anchor, then we can attempt to reset it in the skin. For this, the sooner the better, so get here quick! Otherwise, we will let that area heal and try again in 4-5 weeks.

  • Q: We went to Clair’s what do we do?

A: Piercings via the “piercing gun” are going to have significantly more complications than those done with a hollow needle. This will absolutely affect the healing of your child’s ears. If you would like to remove the jewelry, allow them to heal, and then come in to have them pierced more effectively, you’re more than welcome to do so. Otherwise, ensure the child is not playing with the fresh piercing, regardless of what establishment pierced them. Maintain cleanliness and ensure that the jewelry is allowing plenty of room for swelling and isn’t suffocating the piercing site. If the piercing appears tight, attempt to loosen it.

  • Q: I feel like I might have an infection. What do I do?

A: DO NOT REMOVE YOUR JEWELRY! If you fear an infection is present, it’s important to leave the jewelry in, so we don’t trap any infection within the body. Contact your piercer immediately for assistance.

  • Q: I feel like I might have an irritation bump or the start of keloid scar. What do I do?

A: Contact your piercer for care instructions on how to alleviate these.
